SANE/Freeze was a national peace and justice organization working to cut military spending. The Santa Clara County chapter joined as a BAA affiliate in late 1992. Because Santa Clara County was the most military-dependent county in the nation, the local SANE/Freeze chapter focused on economic conversion, as well as a Comprehensive Nuclear Weapons Test Ban Treaty and a humane foreign policy.
In 1993, reflecting its expanded mission and the changing global landscape, SANE/Freeze changed its name to Peace Action, which continues as a major peace and antiwar organization today.
