Building Manager Leland Francois helped keep the BAA office at 715 Colorado Ave ticking, doing tons of maintenance, upgrades, and landscape upkeep. He ran a property maintenance business for many local property owners, and rented a desk in BAA’s back office (although in the August 14, 1997 BAA Council meeting, a motion was accepted to waive Leland’s $100/month rent in exchange for his many services to the building and garden). He earned the Cheek Smooch in BAA’s Fall 1995 newsletter for his outstanding efforts. Plus he was just an all-around nice guy.

He volunteered extensively at the Midtown Garden and  he was a key volunteer and mentor to many youths at the East Palo Alto Garden.

Leland started the Free At Last Gardening Club, and developed Gardenkits.
